Cosmetic Dentistry Options
There is no shortage of cosmetic dentist in Salt Lake City, on the contrary, the proliferation of the same has necessitated specialization. To be more specific, Dr. Nate C. Lewis offers a general practice to improve not only the use but appearance of the teeth but also specialize in a specific aspect of cosmetic dentistry.  This article will discuss some of the more common types of cosmetic dentistry in order to aid in the understanding of consumers as well as provide general guidelines for each procedure.

Teeth Whitening
One of the most common types of cosmetic care for the teeth. Whitening requires the introduction of chemicals or the use of instruments to remove the dirt, impurities, plaque, tartar, etc. In other words, whitening merely returns the teeth to its natural “white”. This is not to be confused with bleaching which requires the introduction of bleaching agents to lighten the color of the teeth beyond its natural color. The former is a better option because it retains the natural components, health and strength of the teeth while the latter can damage or weaken the teeth.

Tooth Reshaping
Reshaping entails grinding or chipping away at the enamel of the tooth in order to create a more pleasing visual effect. Reshaping can be used to correct the position of teeth, even out crooked or jagged teeth, or create a more effective bite that has no gaps, over bite or under bite. For example, if part of the front tooth was chipped by accident then the chip can be evened out in order to minimize the appearance of the chip. Reshaping means:

Dental Bridge
A bridge is a false tooth/teeth that is placed between two (sometimes one) artificial crowns to effectively fill up gaps on loose teeth or gaps due to missing or extracted teeth. The crowns on both sides of the false teeth are then attached to existing teeth in such a manner that the user cannot remove it manually. Aside from the obvious cosmetic effect of filling out gaps, dental bridges can help correct improper bite and help prevent gum or teeth disease, especially if coupled with proper dental hygiene

Dental Implants
Dental implants are embedded below the gum line as such they are considered root devices and are made of different alloys, the most popular of which is titanium which will then fuse with the surrounding bone in order to provide support for a tooth that is restored, reassembled, replaced, etc. Proper fusion with the bone is necessary in order to maintain the tooth, otherwise the same will create infection, become uncomfortably loose or fall off.
